"Galaxy My Friend" was painted from childhood memories. My grandparents lived next to an Arabian barn. I was about 4 years old, a dappled grey Arabian show stallion, Galaxy, lived on the other side of the fence. I used to hang out with him, feed him grass, talk to him however 4 year olds chat, we would just be.
One day he invited me to climb up the fence and get on his back. He said, "want to see where I live?" Of course, I said, "yes please!" I climbed up, he sidled right up to the fence and leaned in so I could get on. He walked calmly around the paddock showing me the whole paddock, where the mares go out, the grain room, where he sleeps at night and then walked to the exact same place I got on, stopped, stood completely still and leaned towards the fence. I didn't want to get off, but I knew it was non-negotiable.
Seconds later, my dad came running out all upset and asked me if I’d been riding that horse. Since it was Galaxy’s idea, I didn’t want the horse to get in trouble, so I lied. Well, that didn't work, they had just painted the fence. I had paint on the inside of my leg, my dress and Galaxy had some on his back, busted!
I guess the neighbor had called and the adults were panicking that a toddler was riding a stallion around the paddock, no tack or supervision!!! He was the epitome of a great Arabian Horse. In the Arabian horse shows, the champions get roses put around their necks, so we are dancing in a bed of roses, I'm saying thank you.
